Middle East North Africa International Physical Literacy Convention Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain 2018

DescriptionReasons to AttendKingdom of Bahrain

“Active Nation, Healthy Population”

The International Physical Literacy Convention Middle East North Africa, “Active Nation, Healthy Population”, hosted by the Sport for Life Society and the Kingdom of Bahrain Olympic Committee, will be the first conference to be held in this region on September 9 – 11, 2018. It will bring global leaders in physical literacy together with sport, health, education and recreation experts to present, learn and apply the knowledge and implementation of physical literacy culture and programming from across the globe into the Gulf, Middle East, and North African context.

Top Reasons to Attend the Convention

  • A gathering of leading experts in physical literacy from the education, health, and sport sectors.
  • Exposure to documented and existing Quality Physical Literacy Experiences (QPLE) from around the world and how it can be implemented in the MENA Region.
  • Ability to network with global leaders in research and practice related to physical literacy.
  • Ideal location by which to identify practices that can be implemented in your country and community.

Location of the Tree of Life

The Tree of Life in Bahrain is an approximately 400-year-old, 9.75 m high Prosopis cineraria tree located 2 km from Jebel Dukhan and abundantly covered in green leaves. The tree stands on a hill in the Arabian Desert surrounded by miles of sand. Manama is home to the enormous Al Fateh Mosque, whose crystal chandeliers and Italian marble floors can be admired on tours, and the landmark gateway Bab Al Bahrain, which rests amid the skyscrapers of the Central Business District. Nearby is the Beit Al Quran, a museum featuring an extensive collection of Qurans as well as early manuscripts and Islamic art. Just outside the city lie Qal’at al-Bahrain, a Portuguese-built fort surrounded by the layered ruins of previous occupations, and the 15th-century fortress Qala’at Arad on Muharraq island.
